Sule Pagoda

Rising out of the modern Yangon downtown skyline, this ancient pagoda is a reference point for anyone in the city centre. Used as central element of the city’s grid road structure by the British in the 1880s, the building dates back to much further, before the Shwedagon Pagoda even. Legend has it that it was built over 2600 years ago, at the time of Buddha. Gold spires with emerald trimmings seem to push up out of the concrete. A beautiful spot to meditate upon when seeking shelter from the hustle and bustle of the busy streets. 12 km to the south of Grand Mercure, in the heart of the city.
